There
are more Madeiran living outside the confines of the
insular restraints of the island than there are living
on it. In South Africa, for example, there are perhaps
twice as many Madeirans there than here. The impact
of far-flung emmigrants are felt in all sectors of
the economy and social life as they continue to contribute
to the local wealth of the island.
