Quinta São Gonçalo (pronounced "keen-ta ss-eow gone-sa-loo") is located in a picture postcard perfect position in the Funcal city suburb of the same name.
The property has been converted into a comfortable quiet and discreet bed and breakfast establishment (it has four bedrooms only).
The Quinta enjoys a spectacular and awesome view overlooking the sea with the harbour and centre of Funchal at its feet. Indeed many postcards printed today show the same view as that enjoyed by the exclusive accommodation.
The Quinta as it stands today is the main portion of an old and vast estate that was the main homestead of the São Gonçalo suburb. It used to be the summer or country residence of an elite family from central Funchal who in turn were themselves descendants of the noble Portuguese settlers and early discoverers of Madeira. In British terms this home could be considered a "heritage" home. It forms part of the history of the island.
